Perugia and its surroundings

Sport & Natura

The territory of Perugia offers a wide range of occasions to all the people who love sport and nature. In the immediate surroundings of Perugia, Mount Tezio emerges. It has a flourishing vegetation that ranges from the maquis, on one side, and from chestnut woods, on the other, to prairies and cultivation residues.

The remains that put into evidence the ancient presence of the Etruscans and the medieval past of the town based upon natural cycles and rhythms are very interesting, too. Wide natural spaces where history and environment mix together can be found also in Perugia's old city centre.

Among them, there is the "Orto Medievale" inside the agriculture faculty, which is a garden where everything must be interpreted on the basis of a symbolism that blends nature's sacral simplicity and the typical medieval culture. The "Orto Botanico" in the veterinary medicine faculty has many species, also rare ones, and it is a laboratory useful to divulge knowledge on nature, the environment and plants.

The "Giardino del Frontone", is the first public garden in the city. There are also the Giardini Carducci and a Belvedere over the hills of Perugia.
